“I am YouTube-taught and have been playing the ukulele badly for a while. I finally decided to get proper lessons with Sylvia, who is effervescent, never boring and loves to end each song with a great strumming flourish. So far she's already got me vamping and finger picking and has taught me a new song and a scale at every lesson. I love it!”
“I highly recommend Sylvia! She is always prepared for the lesson. She is positive and supportive.”
“Sylvia is a very easy going teacher with solid skills. She helped me to come up with a ukulele sheet of a song I always want to learn! Really enjoy having class with her.”
“I've had a few lessons with Sylvia, at first she was getting to know me and my skill level, as our lessons have progressed she has really listened and tapped into what I want to explore with my lessons. Each lesson has been more and more tailored to my specific needs. She is a really great teacher and has taken on board where I want to be stretched....and what kind of music I want to be exploring.”
“I would highly recommend Sylvia. From our very first lesson, Sylvia demonstrated an incredible level of patience that immediately put me at ease. Learning to play the ukulele can be challenging, especially when it comes to mastering strumming patterns, but she never lost her cool. Instead, she took the time to understand my struggles, encouraging me to approach each challenge with confidence. Her calm demeanour and unwavering support make all the difference.”
“What truly sets Sylvia apart is her ability to adapt her teaching methods to fit my learning style. Whether through auditory aids, hands-on demonstrations, or visual exercises, depending on the song and my struggles she has a remarkable talent for personalizing her approach. It has been a little more than a year now and with a busy work schedule and hectic home life I have not always spent the time I wanted to playing but I will always try to make the time for our weekly lesson as even if I only play one hour that week (which is not enough to progress) I know that it will be a very enjoyable time for myself. Her patience, adaptability, and genuine dedication to her students' progress make her an invaluable asset to anyone looking to learn the ukulele. I am truly grateful for the time I am spending with her, and I am confident that others will feel the same.”
“I have had ukulele lessons with Sylvia for quite a while and always look forward to my next class. She brings a lot of her own ideas and material, making sure a wide range of techniques and styles are covered, but is also happy to work on songs I bring along and would like to learn, working on it together with her expert guidance. It's a lot of fun and she's a great teacher.”
“Sylvia's classes are great, I am both learning a lot and having fun. She is always well prepared, has a ton of self-made material and knows all of the ins and outs of playing the ukulele. She also welcomes (and even encourages) you to suggest songs to play yourself, which makes learning so much more enjoyable!”
“Sylvia is very professional at all times as well as humble and caring. She explains things clearly and concisely. She provides you with the material you need to learn and is also open to suggestions. She is understanding of peoples needs and musical levels and is willing to work with you at your own pace. And she is super flexible with times and space; I do my classes online from New Zealand!”
“Sylvia is a wonderful teacher, she is enthusiastic about playing the ukulele and really patient, encouraging and positive. I've enjoyed learning from her and been able to learn songs I initially thought wouldn't be possible. I can't imagine a better ukulele teacher!”
“Sylvia is an excellent ukulele tutor. Very professional, patient and thorough. She provides easy to follow instructions for beginners and helpful materials (which you can keep). I quickly improved under Sylvia's tutelage and I couldn't have learnt the ukulele without her help.”

Sylvia has experience teaching students from all sorts of ages. She finds that very young children, under 6, may struggle with focus and finger dexterity, therefore she recommends to start from 6yo upwards. As for older students, while true that it can be more of a physical and mental challenge the older you get, learning the ukulele is an excellent way to stay sharp and keep stimulated!
A full lesson is 50-minutes and a half lesson is 30-minutes, recommended for very young students or those with time constraints.
